The Madras Gem Institute (formerly known as Madras Gem Testing Laboratory till 2002 ) was founded in 1983 as an independent & private organization dedicated to provide professional Gem testing , Diamond Grading and appraisal services for the gem and jewellery trade , as well as to expand the knowledge and appreciation of gemstones among members of the general public. Equipped with the most modern gemological equipments, our lab is capable of answering most testing problems quickly and accurately. These testing procedures are based upon non destructive optical tests by such instruments as Polariscope, Refractromter, Microscope and Spectroscope etc., Today it is the first & the oldest Institute of its kind in South India. The Institute has built up its capabilities over the years. Its services are constantly reviewed , expanded & improved. The Institute is truly committed to the services it gives to the trade & public alike.
